Species Questions
How can I confirm if my species is native to Maui Nui?
Visit our Artists Resources Page to find resources for researching species from vetted internet sources, books you can get from the library, places to visit in person and experts to talk to. If you can not find it there you can also email us at pr@eastmauiwatershed.org with your species name and we can help confirm if it is native to Maui Nui. Please allow up to 2-3 business days for us to respond.
Is there a list somewhere of all species acceptable for this exhibit that are native to Maui Nui?
No there is not, the purpose of this exhibit is aimed at raising awareness of Maui Nui’s native flora and fauna. Maui Nui boasts a rich diversity of native species too vast to list out comprehensively, relying solely on a species list can inadvertently limit the depth of an artist’s understanding. Our hope is by conducting personal research, artists can develop a deeper understanding of the unique characteristics, behaviors, and ecological significance of each native species. Visit the ‘Artist Resources‘ page for a curated list of books, websites, places to visit, and videos filled with ideas and images of native species. Once you feel you have a species you would like to feature you are welcome to email us at pr@eastmauiwatershed.org with your species name/s and we can help confirm if it is native to Maui Nui and acceptable for this exhibit. Please allow up to 2-3 business days for us to respond.

Questions on Kids Artwork
Does kids artwork need to be framed?
Yes, all artwork must be framed with a hanging wire. A stretched canvas with a wrapped edge may be considered framed. For the safety of the artwork and for ease of installation we kindly ask for NO sawtooth hangers. If you are entering work for a whole class or a large number of students you may consider putting frames on your class supply list, shopping for frames second hand, asking local stores to donate frames, etc. Picture hanging wire can be purchased at most hardware stores should you have a frame without one.
Can I enter my whole class?
This is a juried show for all ages and not all entries are guaranteed to get in and space is limited for youth entries. We strongly encourage you hold a contest within your own class first and submit the winning artwork.
